What to note about your cat’s litter box habits
A simple observation record—and the signs that should never wait for a shopping solution.
Record changes, not diagnoses
Note when you first noticed a change, repeated visits to the box, visible blood, vocalizing, and urination outside the box. Share these observations with your veterinarian. Similar signs can have different causes; a home observation log cannot establish a diagnosis.
Keep the record simple
- Date and time of the observation.
- What you actually saw, without guessing a cause.
- Whether urine was passed.
- Changes in appetite, behavior, or household routine.
Shopping comes later
After discussing your cat’s needs with your vet, compare everyday supplies for ease of cleaning, accessibility, and fit in your home. No consumer product should be presented as a cure for, or guaranteed prevention of, urinary blockage.
